Tuesday, October 31, 2023- Kenya’s Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has escaped from the country to avoid meeting His Majesty King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
King Charles III, who is the head of the British monarchy
and the commonwealth is on a four-day tour of
Kenya where he is accompanied by the Queen.
Kenya’s bleak colonial past loomed large as King Charles
landed in Nairobi on Monday evening.
Many communities are still grappling with the pain and loss
they or their families endured over decades of British colonial rule, which
lasted from 1895 to 1963.
One of the groups that put the King under pressure is the
Mau Mau group which was based in Mt Kenya and Aberdare ranges during the
colonial group.
Former Mau Mau fighters are now demanding money and an
apology from King Charles III for the atrocities the British government
committed during the colonial period.
Gachagua, who brags himself a son of Mau Mau is said to have
escaped out of the country to avoid meeting the head of a country that
tormented his parents.
“Yes he is Germany and he has no plans of meeting His
Majesty the King and the Queen. He has personal reasons for doing this,” One of
his aides told a Nairobi-based daily on Tuesday.
