I Have No Apologies For Saying That The Kenya Kwanza Government Will Ban Mitumba Clothes – CS Moses Kuria Says

Wednesday, November 2,2022-Trade and Investment Cabinet Secretary, Honourable, Moses Kuria has said he has no apologies to make for saying he will ban second-hand clothes commonly known as Mitumba in the country.

Kuria on Tuesday said his Ministry will ban Mitumba once it provides an alternative to Kenyans.

The CS’s sentiments attracted mixed reactions with many criticising him for threatening the Mitumba business which employs thousands of common people.

Others went ahead to remind him how he protested when Raila Odinga made similar sentiments during the campaign period.

However, while speaking on Wednesday in Limuru, Kuria said that he has no apologies to make over his sentiments. Kuria stated that he will provide alternatives for Kenyans so that they can stop depending on Mitumba.

“Many of those criticizing me don't even know where Gikomba is. We won't transform this country on hysteria and propaganda. I have no regrets about what I said, we can make our own clothing here locally and sell it at affordable prices. A time will come when we will ban Mitumba. I promise to create over four million jobs in the textile industry," Kuria said.
