Monday, January 2, 2023-Russia President Vladimir Putin may not serve for long as the country's strongman due to his health condition and his advanced age.
According to Kremlin sources, Putin‘s age is always a
discussion among the Russian politburo and it is a matter of time before his
successor is identified.
Among those touted to be Putin’s replacement is the head of
Wagner Group Yevgeny Prigozhin.
Wagner Group is a group of retired Russian Army veterans who
do dirty work for Russia.
“I cleaned the old weapons myself, sorted out the
bulletproof vests myself,” said Mr. Prigozhin, referring to the early days of
the Wagner Group. He called his private soldiers “heroes”.
Prigozhin is technically employed as Vladimir Putin’s cook,
and he served caviar and truffles to George W. Bush all the way back in 2002.
He owns a number of exclusive restaurants, a successful
catering business with lucrative contracts to supply schools and Russia’s armed
forces, as well as his food-processing factories.
United States investigators believe he was behind a “fake
news” campaign that may have helped get Donald Trump into the oval office and
that he financed Russia’s “troll factory.”
Now it is a wait-and-see whether the popular ‘Chef’ will
succeed Putin who is becoming less popular in Russia for waging a war in
Ukraine.
