Sunday, February 19, 2023-The Kisumu council of elders and the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya alliance met to discuss President William Ruto's administration on Saturday.
They argued in the conference that Kisumu's contribution to
the national government should not be forgotten or disregarded by the
government.
"We don't shy away from wars that matter. We were
firmly in the first liberation war that gave us independence," the
statement read.
“We were fully involved in the Second Liberation War, which
restored our rights and liberties and resulted in a new constitution, but today
we are afraid, which is why we are gathered here.
According to the statement, Kenya Kwanza has tightened its
grip on Azimio's victories, and they worry that the window of opportunity for
the freedoms and liberties they fought for is closing.
"Elections are starting to be worthless. People's suffering
is no longer significant. Other political parties are being forced to have no
significance. The single-party era is being brought back by Kenya Kwanza,” they
said.
