Monday, April 3, 2023-President William Ruto seems to be regretting on why he agreed to dialogue with the opposition leader, Raila Odinga.
In his address to the nation on Sunday, Ruto declared that
he was ready to dialogue with the Opposition and made a concession for a
bi-partisan approach in the recruitment of new electoral commission chiefs.
Shortly after Ruto's statement, Raila called off the
countrywide mass protests terming Ruto's statement as "important" and
a "positive" development.
"We acknowledge Ruto’s olive branch for a dialogue on
key issues raised by Azimio La Umoja. To us, this is a positive
development," Raila said.
However, Ruto’s troops in Parliament seem to be confused
over the President's speech on Sunday and they have been forced to appease
their supporters about the contents of the dialogue.
In a tweet on Monday, Kericho Senator, Aaron Cheruiyot who
is also the Majority leader in Senate assured Kenya Kwanza Alliance supporters
that everything will be okay and they will not fall into Raila’s trap during
the negotiations.
“I understand the apprehension and corkiness of Kenya Kwanza
supporters. They know quite well what happens to an administration when it goes
down that road. However, we ask you to please trust us. As your Parliamentary
leadership, we know what's Haram and a no-go zone for us,” Cheruiyot wrote on
his Twitter page.
