Wednesday, May 18, 2022-Wiper Democratic Movement party has distanced itself from a declaration by its party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka that he will vie for the presidency in August.
On Monday, Kalonzo announced his exit from Azimio –One Kenya
Alliance over what he termed as mistrust and instead announced his presidential
bid.
The former Vice President further named businessman Andrew
Sunkuli as his running mate and also said One Kenya Alliance(OKA) will be his
presidential vehicle.
However, in a statement on Tuesday Wiper Vice Chairman,
Victor Swanya said he was shocked when Kalonzo left Azimio on Monday.
Swanya said that what he knows is that they are supporting
Raila for the presidency and they have never endorsed Kalonzo for the
presidency.
"As a party, we have not held any meeting endorsing or
sanctioning Kalonzo to run for the presidency. What I know is that as Azimio
coalition we are backing and supporting Raila for the presidency," Swanya
said.
