2023-Following a significant earthquake that occurred in Turkey on Monday
morning, Defence CS Aden Duale has sent Turkey a message of sympathy.
Numerous people were killed and injured after an earthquake
with a 7.8 magnitude rocked south-eastern Turkey close to the Syrian border.
Duale said, "I join the rest of the world in expressing
my worries and offering my sincere sympathies to the afflicted individuals and
families, as well as the government of Turkey.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, headquartered in
the UK, estimated that 320 people had been killed in Syria as of 1:36 pm,
according to the BBC. Turkish President Recep Erdogan claimed that at least 912
people had died in the nation.
It is probable that more people may die, bringing the
overall number of fatalities from the earthquake to approximately over 5000
President Erdogan added that Turkey had suffered at least
20,383 injuries.
Turkey proclaimed a state of emergency shortly after the
earthquake and advised its citizens to abstain from using cell phones so that
rescuers could work together.
The epicentre was close to the Turkish city of Gaziantep,
and millions of people felt it across Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Cyprus, and
Israel.
Interior Minister of Turkey Süleyman Soylu stated that ten
cities, including KaramanmaraÅŸ, Hatay, Gaziantep, Osmaniye, Adyaman, Malatya,
Anlurfa, Adana, Diyarbakir, and Kilis, were hit by the earthquake.
