Monday, October 31, 2022-Azimio One Kenya Alliance party leader, Raila Odinga has today issued a fresh demand to President William Ruto's government.
Speaking on Monday in Kakamega County during the burial of
Kakamega County Governor, Ferdinard Barasa’s mother Philomena Mutelwa Barasa,
Raila noted that President Ruto's government should surrender 20 percent of the
shareholding in Mumias Sugar Company to the County Government of Kakamega
According to Raila Odinga's arguments, the government
surrendering its 20 percent shareholding will ease the operation of the company
"Government should surrender its 20% shareholding in
Mumias Sugar Company to the County Government of Kakamega to ease the
operations of the company and also enable locals to start growing
sugarcane," Raila said.
Mumias is one of the biggest sugarcane factories in the
country but it has been facing endless problems from mismanagement to
corruption by senior employees.
