Thursday, December 15, 2022-Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner, Irene Masit has explained why she rushed to Serena Hotel when commission chairman, Wafula Chebukati went to announce the results of the August 9th Presidential election.
Masit, Former IEBC Vice-chairperson, Juliana Cherera, ex
commissioners, Francis Wanderi and Justus Nyangaya rushed to an apartment in
Kilimani Nairobi minutes before Chebukati announced President William Ruto was
the winner of the hotly contested election.
“The four of us moved to an apartment in Kilimani, Yaya
Centre, fearing for our safety because of the sensitivity of the presidential
election, "Masit stated.
Masit's explanation came after the head of the tribunal
investigating the four IEBC commissioners Justice Aggrey Muchelule issued an
inquiry to the management of Masit and her group to find out whether they were
staying at the premises during the election period.
Meanwhile, Masit, who is represented by constitutional
lawyer Donald B Kipkoriri, will now await trial which is expected to start on
December 19, 2022.
